Hello (:

Little Voices is a project funded by YMCA and Citibank under the Youth For Causes program. Our VWO is Children's Cancer Foundation. The name Little Voices represents the voices of children suffering from cancer, who also suffer from a lot of discrimination due to misconceptions about them in society. Through our campaign, street sales and exhibitions, we hope to raise awareness about children's cancer and encourage acceptance of these children.

Our exco of four people is made up of Jessica Teck, Kylie Liu, Eugenia Kwong and Lim Sim Hwee from Nanyang Girls' High. However, our full team is made up of students from HCI, RI, SCGS, Catholic High and Xin Min Secondary.

We plan to hold our exhibitions at various schools to raise awareness, including our participating schools. However, this list is not exhaustive, so if you would like to have an exhibition in your school, please do leave a message on the tagboard or drop us an email.

For our street sales, we will be selling T-shirts, badges, ice-lollies, cotton candy and fruit. (Pictures soon!) They will take place at Orchard Road. The dates during the June holidays are every Monday, Friday and Saturday starting from the 1st of June. Please do show your support by coming down to buy our products or volunteering! About Children’s Cancer Foundation (CCF)

Children’s Cancer Foundation (CCF) is a non-profit organisation impassioned with the mission of improving the quality of lives of children with cancer and their families through enhancing their emotional, social and medical well-being. Since 1996, CCF has helped more than 1,500 children and their families at its family support centres located at KK Women’s & Children’s Hospital (KKH) and the National University Hospital (NUH) providing them the much needed support in their battle against the life threatening illness. Armed with the vision of providing world-class resources and psycho-social services for children and families impacted by childhood cancer, CCF moves forward by restructuring its organization to better suit the needs of our beneficiaries.

Towards the end of 2008, CCF has adopted an integrated hospital-home-community service model for current and future generations of children and young persons with cancer and their families, enabling CCF to efficiently assist them through the different stages of the illness and recovery. In addition to the existing hospital-based services provided by our 2 family support centres, the new CCF set-up also provides opportunities for the development of new areas of services such as survivorship for continuing care of those beneficiaries in remission and home-based palliative services for children and families coping with life-limiting conditions.

…In the Hospitals
Tasked to help children who are newly diagnosed and under active treatment, CCF manages two Family Support Centres (FSC) separately located at the KK Women’s and Children’s Hospital (KKH) and the National University Hospital (NUH).

CCF social workers and counselors in the family support centres participate in case conferences and meetings with parents, doctors, nurses, medical workers and patients. Our professional staff offer counseling and casework services to the families, conduct therapeutic play intervention and organise ward activities for the children to help reduce the effects of isolation and anxiety in the hospital. Caregivers are supported through group work and have access to resources to help them better understand and cope with care-giving demands.

…In the Community
As we see a gradual increase in survivorship among children with childhood cancer, CCF mooted the idea of introducing a Community Team to serve those children in remission but still requiring continuing care. The team composes dedicated social workers and programme executives working closely with partners in ensuring our beneficiaries’ smooth transition back to the fold of the community. The CCF Community Team is tasked to develop services that would enhance the families’ abilities to rise above the challenges of the illness. In addition to the existing portfolio of engaging siblings, counseling support and back to school activities, etc. the Community Team will be breaking new grounds to learn, understand and find ways to support survivors of childhood cancer.

…In the Homes of the Children
When a child is at the end stage of life, it is a tremendously challenging time for the dying child and the family members. Palliative support and bereavement support are critical services provided by CCF professionals to improve the quality of life of impacted families.

Our Home team strives to provide holistic care of the physical, emotional, mental, social and spiritual facets of impacted children and their families. We strongly believe that the children and their families deserve all support to maintain quality of life as they are faced with life-limiting or life-threatening conditions.

With the new structure, CCF contextually aligns our services with the journey of the children and their families in battling childhood cancer.

Why Raise Funds For CCF?

CCF is an independent Voluntary Welfare Organisation (VWO) without government funding. CCF is solely funded by public and corporate donations. It is the Corporate Community, Civic Organisations, Schools and generous individuals that help raise funds for CCF. The donations raised will facilitate the continued provision and improvement of various programmes and services for CCF’s beneficiaries and their families.

We sincerely appreciate your understanding towards the plight of children with cancer and their families in Singapore. Your support certainly makes a difference to them as they face difficult times in their battle against childhood cancer. May our joint efforts as part of their community of support, continue to help them fight and win the battle against childhood cancer.
